A piece of very soft punky elm “crotch” was split into project 104 and 105.
The half was attached to an 11″ circle to better rotate on the circle jig of the bandsaw. The blank once cut.The tops of the blanks (104 and 105) were sliced off to better accommodate the epoxy process. The blank was placed in a custom container with stabilizing fluid in a vacuum chamber. Bob, the steel weight, was added to keep the blank from floating. The cured blank was put back in the container with Bob and the epoxy was added and placed into the vacuum chamber to remove bubbles. Then all was placed into the pressure pot for a couple days. The pressure pot was opened and Bob’s eyes had fallen off, again. Removing the casting from the bucket proved to be a major ordeal as the custom container had to be split the Bob’s bucket had to be cut off.The blank mounted on the lathe for turning. Bob’s bucket bottom had to be turned out as it was stuck. The rough turned bowl.Clean up. All that and more came from the blank.Chips of epoxy and wood were everywhere. Cleanup took a while.
